site.btaFire Close to Border with Turkiye Affects Nearly 100 Ha, No Risk to Settlements
A wildfire has been raging near the villages of Golyam Dervent and Kraynovo, located close to the border with Turkiye, since Thursday. The flames have affected an area of some 100 ha but there is no danger of the fire reaching the nearby settlements and Turkiye at the moment,Yambol Regional Governor Nikolay Kostadinov and Commissioner Kolyo Gyaurov, head of the Regional Fire Safety Directorate, told BTA on Friday.
The fire is in a hard-to-reach area within the border municipalities of Elhovo and Bolyarovo. Burning are dry grasses and bushes, as well as deciduous forest.
The fire is being extinguished in the interior. There is no danger of it developing towards the nearby villages of Golyam Dervent, Sharkovo or Kraynovo, said Commissioner Gyaurov.
There were 12 teams of firefighters, about 30 forestry employees and volunteers, 12 firefighters and one specialised forestry vehicle on the ground Friday morning, said Yambol Regional Police Directorate spokeswoman Tatyana Pavlova.
