New Turkish Parliament Holds First Session with Swearing In of Newly Elected MPs

On Friday, the 28th Grand National Assembly of Turkiye held its first session, which includeд the swearing in of the newly elected deputies.

A total of 15 political parties from a various political spectrum are represented in the new 600-seat Parliament. The ruling Justice and Development Party headed  by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in cooperation with the nationalists led by Devlet Bahceli, managed to maintain a comfortable majority even after the elections.

During the swearing-in ceremony, there was a traditional moment of silence to honour Mustafa Kemal Atatуrk, the founder of the Turkish Meclis (Parliament)
The Justice and Development Party Floor Leader Muhammet Emin Akbaşoglu said that their priority will be the realization of the pre-election promises given to the voters, which include  an increase in the minimum wage in July, a 22% increase in the salaries of civil servants, pension allowances.

The Turkish President will be sworn in for a new five-year term in office on Saturday, and he is expected to announce the composition of the new cabinet later that evening. The new ministers will be sworn in on Sunday.
