Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) is not participating in the current no-confidence motions in order to demonstrate its firm support for Bulgaria’s candidacy for the eurozone, CC-DB co-floor leader Nikolay Denkov told journalists in Parliament on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, GERB leader Boyko Borissov claimed that statements from CC-DB “will scare Brussels” and the eurozone convergence report will be unsatisfactory, which will delay Bulgaria’s accession.

According to Denkov, there are no grounds to claim that CC-DB is threatening Bulgaria’s eurozone progress in any way. “Once a date for Bulgaria’s eurozone entry is set, any government will be required to follow the law,” he said, adding that “Borissov is afraid he might not receive a positive report because of issues related to the judiciary”.

He confirmed that CC-DB will not take part in no-confidence votes until an official eurozone entry date is announced, but said the coalition will initiate its own vote afterward. “We will not turn a blind eye to the corruption scandals that emerge every week and cost human lives,” CC-DB co-floor leader added.

Denkov also noted that Borissov should be more concerned about recent comments by the European Commissioner for Justice regarding setbacks in Bulgaria’s rule of law. “The convergence reports from 2020, 2022, and 2024 all include sections expressing concern over the state of the rule of law in Bulgaria,” he pointed out.
