The photographic exhibition "Women of Ukraine in Bulgaria" opens on April 7, announced Monday the Polish Institute, host and co-organizer of the event, together with the Open Heart Foundation.

The images are by photographer Peter Penkov. The opening will feature a musical accompaniment on bandura performed by Tatyana Yurina, and a short concert by Margarita Shurupova (vocals) accompanied by guitar.

The oldest woman in the exhibition is 92 and the youngest is 9. "Ukrainian refugee women are first and foremost mothers, some with many children, many of them raising their children alone in a foreign country and without any help. They are young women and girls... They are elderly single women, they are disabled women from the Zheleznichar base who are full of life, they are refugees of three generations - grandmothers, mothers, granddaughters - who live far from home... They are strong and proud. Their main goal is to make their children's lives calmer and happier. For many of them, Bulgaria is now a second homeland. These are women who struggle every day to rebuild their lives," say the initiators of the project.

"Open Heart has been helping Ukrainian refugees since the first days of the war. This exhibition aims to show empathy for the plight of refugee women and to remind that Bulgaria will always support Ukraine, the foundation adds.
