Sofia, May 4 (BTA) - Bulgarian President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev addressed officers being awarded a higher rank at a ceremony at the Presidential Building n the eve of May 6, Bulgarian Armed Forces Day. "Don't forget that there are high public expectations for elevating the authority of the Bulgarian Army and for developing modern defense capabilities" said the President.
The President is dismissing Rear Admiral Mitko Petev as Navy Commander as of June 23, and appointing him as a millitary representative at the NATO Military Committee and the Military Committee of the European Union. The President honored him with a senior officer rank Vice Admiral.
The President awarded the Military Medical Academy head, Brigadier General Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, with the title of Major General of the Military Medical Academy from May 6.
Rumen Radev appointed Colonel Deyan Deshkov as commander of the 61st Mechanized Infantry Brigade and awarded him a senior officer's rank of Brigadier General. The president praised Deshkov's service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Vice Admiral Petev assured the Supreme Commander and the present political and military leadership of the Defense Ministry that they will remain faithful to the oath they took before the Bulgarian battle flags, will preserve the honor of the troops and will do everything necessary to protect the image, freedom and independence of Bulgaria.
