site.btaAt 74.8 Years, Bulgaria's Life Expectancy at Birth Is EU's Lowest

May 13 (BTA) - Life expectancy at birth of the Bulgarian
population, calculated for the 2016-2018 period, was 74.8 years.
 It was unchanged compared to the previous period (2015-2017),
the National Statistical Institute said on Monday.

In the EU, Bulgaria and Latvia (74.9 years) are the countries
with the lowest life expectancy.

The highest life expectancy at birth is registered in Spain
(83.4 years) and Italy (83.1years).

Different mortality rates of men and women, as well as of the
urban and rural population, resulted in differences in the life
expectancy at birth for these population categories. Life
expectancy at birth is 71.4 years for the male  population and
78.4 years for the female population (7.0 years higher). Between
 2008 and 2018, the life expectancy at birth increased by 1.9
years for the male population and by1.8 years for the female
population.

At 75.7 years, the life expectancy of the urban population is
2.9 years higher than that of the rural population (72.8 years).
 Compared to 2008, the life expectancy of the urban population
increased by 2.3 years and the life expectancy of the rural
population increased by 1.0 years.

Life expectancy at age 65 is 16.1 years (14.1 years male and
17.8 years female). For the 2008-2018 period, the life
expectancy at age 65 increased by 1.2 years (0.9 years male and
