Reference Centre for New Breast
Cancer Screening Method

May 21 (BTA) - Sofia's Maichin Dom maternity hospital has been newly certified to operate as a reference centre in the Balkans for a new breast cancer screening method: contact thermography. With this certificate the hospital is authorized to give expert opinion on thermograms from hospitals in all other Balkan countries.

Contact thermography was developed in Poland and it produces the equipment used in the method. Three Maichin Dom doctors visited the prodution base in Warsaw to discuss the application of
contact thermography with medical specialists from all over the world. 

Contact thermography takes several minutes to perform and the results are analyzed by artificial intelligence. It can detect formations in the breast gland, which are as small as 3 mm. LN/
