As part of the tradition, flowers were also laid at the monuments of benefactors Evlogy and Christo Georgiev and the memorial plaques of Sofia University’s lecturers and students who fell during the Balkan Wars.

Among the attendees were MPs, Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliki Preslav, clergy of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Bulgarian News Agency Director General Kiril Valchev, lecturers, and students.

The day’s celebration traditionally began with a Divine Liturgy held at St Kliment Ohridski chapel in SU’s Faculty of Theology by Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliki Preslav, the Faculty’s spiritual guide. Following the liturgy, a procession made its way to the monument of St. Kliment Ohridski.

In the university’s ceremonial hall, Prof. Georgi Valchev congratulated the academic community on the Patron’s Day. The head of the Department of Classical Studies at the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Assoc. The ceremony continued with the presentation of certificates to the newly appointed professors for the period 25 November 2023-25 November 2024. The celebration will conclude with a musical performance by the University Choir for early music conducted by Krasimira Tsutsumanova.
