site.btaFood Prices Index Down 0.24% in Outgoing Week

A decrease in the prices of fruits and vegetables was observed over the outgoing week, State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets data showed on Sunday. The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.24% to 2.129 points in the outgoing week, the Commission said. Last week, the index stood at 2.124 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Greenhouse cucumbers decreased in price by 4.2% to BGN 2.48 per kilogram, while greenhouse tomatoes went up by 1.1% to BGN 3.18 per kilogram. The price of green peppers was down by 5.2% to BGN 1.72 per kilogram, and that of red peppers - by 3.8% to BGN 2.07 per kilogram.

Potatoes maintained their price of BGN 1.17 per kilogram, while carrots went down by 7.8% to BGN 1.06 per kilogram. Ripe onions also went down by 4.6% to BGN 1.03 per kilogram, and cabbage - by 10.1% to BGN 0.98 per kilogram.

The price of lemons decreased by 21.5% to BGN 2.63 per kilogram, while the decrease in bananas was minimal by 0.4% to BGN 2.71 per kilogram. Grapes were also cheaper, by 1.3% to BGN 2.34 per kilogram. A significant price drop was observed for apples (by 12% to BGN 1.46 per kilogram), oranges (by 9.6% to BGN 2.45 per kilogram) and tangerines (by 10.5% to BGN 3.40 per kilogram).

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went down by 0.4% to BGN 11.25/kg, while the price of yellow 'kashkaval' cheese of the Vitosha type went up by 0.3% to BGN 16.80/kg.

Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) ) increased in price by 1% to BGN 1.25 for a cup of 400 grammes, and fresh milk (3% fat content) -increased by 1.8% to 2.33 BGN per liter.
The price of chicken went up by 1.6% to BGN 6.36/kg, eggs (size M) went up by 3.2% to BGN 0.32 per piece.

The price of rice went down by 0.5% to BGN 3.37/kg, lentils by 1.1% to BGN 4.30/kg, and ripe beans went up by 1% to BGN 4.43/kg.

Sugar went up in price by 0.3% to BGN 1.98 per kilogram, and flour (Type 500) went up by 1.6% to BGN 1.36 per kilogram. The price of oil also increased by 2.1 percent to BGN 2.95 per liter, and of cow's butter (125 gram package) went by 1.1 % to BGN 2.88 per piece.
