The film, MPO – 100-Year Struggle for Freedom, will be screened at the Bulgarica Cultural Center in Mount Prospect, about 30 km northwest of downtown Chicago, Illinois, on November 9 at 7 p.m. local time, Bulgarica said on a Facebook event page.
The movie is about the Macedonian Patriotic Organization (MPO), the oldest Bulgarian immigrant organization in the United States and Canada. The MPO was established by Bulgarians from the geographical region of Macedonia, who were trying to make a new home to escape prosecution in their homeland, according to information published on the event page.
The film presents the history of the organization and its members, who still keep the memory of their ancestors and of their rich cultural and historical heritage alive in North America. The MPO members were pioneers on American soil 100 years ago. They and their descendants have built many churches and schools.
