Emerging from Friday's meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security, There Is Such a People (TISP Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov told reporters that the first step to solving a problem is realizing it exists. From there onward, the state bodies will have to take a decision gradually, he added, specifying that the decisions are for increasing the national security. "The level of threat is relative low but it does exist," he noted.
The President convened the Council to discuss the risks for Bulgaria in the context of the conflicts in the Middle East.
"As a whole, there was some kind of realization. When the whole country is threatened, the actions taken are slightly more reasonable," Yordanov commented. "I a not saying that there is immediate threat to Bulgaria," he underscored.
Yordanov said that he had proposed to the Council that before the next state budget, the political parties in the 51st National Assembly should agree in advance on specific measures related to the field of security in order to make those happen. According to him, security does not include defence only but also passes along several lines, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Agency for National Security, and the investigative services, and they have personnel shortage.
Money should be specified, TISP believe, because there is no enough for the Bulgarian military industry. "The Public Procurement Act is restrictive, and we are blocking our own defence production," the party argues.
