The holder of the regular heavyweight world title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) Mahmoud Charr and challenger Kubrat Pulev exchanged heated words here on Wednesday, ahead of their match on December 7 at the Arena 8888 Sofia.
At a press conference at the Marinela Hotel, which started with only Pulev present, Charr arrived a few minutes late. Both boxers confidently said they believe they will win the fight.
Pulev, 43, with a record of 30 wins (14 by knockout) in 33 matches, stated that Charr had no surprises in store for him. He expressed eagerness for the match day, confident in his ability to demoralize his opponent.
Charr, 40, with 34 wins (20 by knockout) in 38 professional matches, responded by saying he is like a diamond, becoming tougher under pressure. He added that while Pulev is a legend in amateur boxing, he has yet to prove himself against the best in the professional ring.
Germany's Charr and Bulgaria's Pulev had been eager to face each other for a long time. They were originally set to fight on March 30 in Sofia, but the match was called off because Charr injured his bicep.
