site.btaGraduates of Bulgarian Universities from North Macedonia Hold First Meeting in Skopje

The Bulgarian Cultural Information Centre in Skopje hosted the first meeting of graduates of Bulgarian universities from North Macedonia on Monday.

"A large number of citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia have completed their higher education in Bulgarian universities and higher education institutions, 52 in total, since the foundation of Bulgaria’s oldest university – the Sofia University in 1888. Each of these institutions is proud of its graduates, who have realized their knowledge and potential in all areas of public life all over the world, including North Macedonia. Among them are scientists, writers, teachers, lecturers, journalists, lawyers, medics, people from various fields of art, artists, researchers, statesmen, etc. Hundreds, even thousands of people who contribute to the development of not only Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia, but also of many other countries," said Iliana Atanasova, Director of the Zdravei Bulgarian school and one of the initiators of the establishment of the BG-UNI Alumni Association, whose aim is to strengthen ties between universities, their alumni, current students and employers, to implement an effective link between higher education and business.

The activities of the BG UNI Alumni Association are related to sharing professional experience, mentoring current students, offering internship programs and partnerships within various projects. 

The meeting was also one of the last events with the participation of the incumbent Bulgarian Ambassador of Bulgaria to the Republic of North Macedonia, Angel Angelov, whose term of office ends soon, who greeted the attendees from different generations who graduated in Bulgaria.

The meeting was also one of the last events with the participation of the incumbent Bulgarian Ambassador to Skopje Angelov, whose term ends soon.

"We have had this idea for a long time. We did it with the National Academy of Sports graduates, now we are gathering people from different educational institutions because these contacts are important. Bringing together people with different professions broadens thinking. I hope that around December 8 we will be able to have another meeting with the future Bulgarian Ambassador to North Macedonia, to whom I have passed on this idea," Ambassador Angelov said.

The BG UNI Alumni Association already has its own website, through which graduates of higher schools in Bulgaria can register to become part of the community, one of the goals of which is to help the development at national and international level of various ideas, initiatives and projects, as well as to be a kind of intellectual and educational bridge between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
