On this date in Bulgarian history:
1877: The town of Stara Zagora is recaptured and razed to the ground by Suleyman Pasha's troops during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, a few days after its liberation by the Russian forces.
1938: The Salonika Agreement is signed between Bulgaria and the Balkan Entente (Greece, Romania, Turkey and Yugoslavia). The parties agree to refrain from using force in their relations.
1961: The Bulstrad insurance company is established as the country's first insurer for foreign trade, international transport and external economic activities. Nowadays called ZAD Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group.
1992: The National Assembly ratifies the European Convention on Human Rights (formally the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms).
1997: The National Assembly adopts the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Bulgaria Act.
2014: Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov reaches K2 (8,611 m), the world's second-highest mountain situated in the Karakoram range, on the Pakistan-China border.
