Students from Shumen and Ruse participated in a course for diplomacy and international relations at Shumen City Hall on Tuesday.
The programme of the course lasted five hours and included two modules. The first included former youth delegate to the UN Tsvetelina Garelova, while the second was a simulation of negotiations between two completely fictional countries, where the participants are divided into two teams.
The course was moderated by Shumen Municipal Youth Council Chair Stefan Kalinov, who emphasized that communication is very important in diplomacy. The aim of the educational course was for young people to learn the ability to conduct negotiations, which is one of the most valuable skills in building character, said Kalinov. The training is aimed at students from the ninth to twelfth grade and was organized by the Shumen Youth Council. Municipal Council Chair Asya Asparukhova also participated in the training.
Shumen Mayor Prof Hristo Hristov opened the course, stating that Shumen Municipality fully supports the initiative and emphasised that the topic is relevant both globally and nationally. He noted that it is beneficial to also examine the relations between the local administration and the residents of the municipality. "The goal is to turn Shumen into an attractive centre in northeastern Bulgaria", added the Mayor.
