Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on Tuesday congratulated Narendra Modi on his re-election for a third term as Prime Minister of India. "I am confident that our joint efforts will contribute to keeping up the friendship and partnership between Bulgaria and India," Radev wrote on the social network X.
On Sunday, Modi, who leads the Bharatiya Janata Party, was sworn into a third term as Prime Minister at the helm of a coalition government after he surprisingly failed to secure a majority in the elections, Reuters said.
The parliamentary elections in India, the world's most populous country inhabited by more than 1.4 billion people, lasted 44 days, which made them the longest in the world. About 970 million people were eligible to vote, which was more than one in 10 people on the planet.
"We have created a world record of 642 million voters. This is a historic moment for all of us," Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said last week, referring to the number of voters who cast ballots.
