Bulgaria's third most populous city of Varna, unofficially dubbed the country's "seaside capital", has acquired a new bus station. The ribbon was cut by Mayor Blagomir Kotsev on Saturday. He expressed hope that the new bus station will provide better transport connectivity for Varna and better opportunities for comfortable travel. He said the modern facility is one of a series of steps to upgrade the transport system of the 350,000-population city.

The new station will service an average of 300 domestic intercity bus lines daily and 10 international lines on which Varna is a transit point.

The facility occupies an area of 8,000 square metres, including 1,800 sq m of built-up area. It has 28 slots for buses with over 30 passenger seats each, and 14 slots for smaller vehicles. The station has a relatively large outdoor waiting area in keeping with contemporary trends.

The waiting room is open round the clock. It is equipped with about 60 seats, digital timetable boards, a retail centre, a snack bar, a room for mothers with children, a doctor's office and bus company offices. With its three entrances, the station meets the highest accessibility standards. It has an up-to-date video surveillance system.

The new facility was built by a private investor on the site of Varna's old bus station in a little over a year.
