Days of Bulgaria in Nigeria were held in the West African country between May 31 and June 1 for the first time in decades, the Bulgarian Embassy in Abuja says on its Facebook page. The festival was held in Ile-Ife, an ancient city which served as the capital of the Oyo (Yoruba) Empire and, according to the locals, was the birthplace of the first human being.
The centrepiece of the festival was the exhibition, The Ancient Treasures of Bulgaria, organized by the State Institute of Culture under the Bulgarian Foreign Minister and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Balkan Studies.
The Days of Bulgaria were hosted by Obafemi Awolowo University, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Embassy says.
The event marked 60 years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Nigeria.
