site.btaTurk Arrested for Trying to Smuggle 6 Kg Cocaine from Serbia into Bulgaria
A Turkish national was taken into 72-hour custody in Bulgaria after he was found to transport 6 kg of cocaine in a Turkish-registered truck crossing the border from Serbia via the Kalotina checkpoint on Saturday.
The drug was discovered in two packs hidden in a secret compartment in the semitrailer of the truck, the prosecution service reported on Monday. The value of the substance is estimated at around BGN 1.5 million (EUR 770,000).
The driver, with name initials B. K., has been charged under the Bulgarian Penal Code. The pretrial proceedings against him are being supervised by the Sofia District Prosecution Office. A request for the man's indefinite detention will be submitted to the Sofia City Court.
