The outgoing Innovation Minister Milena Stoycheva opened the first meeting of the working group for the establishment of the Bulgarian Space Agency, the Ministry of Innovation and Growth said on Friday. 

The meeting of the working group was attended by the head of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, Flotilla Admiral Boyan Mednikarov,  Naval Academy Assoc. Prof. Veselka Radeva, the head of Defence Ministry’s Strategic Planning Directorate, Brigadier General Zdravko Pehlivanov,  Air Force Academy Assistant Professor Lt. Milen Simeonov, Assoc. Prof. Kamen Kozarev from the Institute of Astronomy, space law lawyer Rada Popova, Stoil Ivanov from the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University, EnduroSat founder Raicho Raichev and others.

An inter-ministerial working group has already been set up at the Ministry to prepare a National Space Policy Strategy by the end of 2024. Some of its main priorities include the development of a competitive national space sector, strengthening international cooperation and accelerating Bulgaria's accession to the European Space Agency as an associate member and enabling the development of the sector's ecosystem.
