The European weightlifting champion for 2022 David Fischerov has had his competition rights suspended for doping, according to a check on the official website of the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The agency has only just announced the Austrian-Bulgarian weightlifter's exclusion from competitions, although his positive sample was taken on March 10, 2023, and his suspension has been in place since March 31 of that year. However, the duration of the athlete's suspension, which could be up to four years, has not been specified.

The check on the ITA's website also shows that the substance trenbolone, which is used to increase muscle mass, was found in the 25-year-old's doping sample.

In September last year, Fischerov was supposed to participate in the world championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but then the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation announced that he was unable to board the plane because he suffered an accident on the way to the airport. He also did not participate in the European championships in Sofia in February 2024.

Fischerov has been competing for Bulgaria since 2020. In 2022, he won the European title in the 102 kg category at the championship in Tirana.
