Swiss recording engineer and film-maker Eugene Chaplin is expected in Bulgaria for the Varna Summer theatre and music festivals. The son of film icon Charlie Chaplin will be the narrator for Chaplin Pianissimo, a stage show about his father's life presented through his music for the cinema. The concert will be performed in the Black Sea city of Varna on June 15 as part of the two festivals' Intermezzo Programme, the promoters from Viafest said on Friday.
The multimedia show features Charlie Chaplin's most popular film music compositions, performed by Jean-Pascal Beintus and Sylvain Morizet on two grand pianos. In the world of cinema, the two French musicians are considered to be among the best orchestrators and music arrangers. Beintus is a Grammy Award winner.
During the show, Eugene Chaplin introduces the audience to the history of the featured musical works and shares personal memories and jokes related to his father's cinematographic legacy. Famous scenes from the movies and the life of one of the most remarkable film-makers of the 20th century are screened to the strains of the grand pianos.
Before coming to Varna, Chaplin Pianissimo will be performed in Sofia on June 10 and Plovdiv on June 12. The English-language show will be presented with Bulgarian subtitles. A meeting with the narrator and the pianists is planned after the concert.
