site.btaBird Flu Outbreak Detected in South Central Bulgaria

A bird flu outbreak has been detected in the village of Tsalapitsa in Plovdiv Region (South Central Bulgaria), the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said. The affected farm raises over 86,000 laying hens.

A three-kilometre protection zone, which includes Tsalapitsa and the town of Stamboliyski, has been established around the affected site. A 10-kilometre surveillance zone has been set up in the town of Saedinenie in Saedinenie Municipality, the villages of Voisil, Benkovski, Radinovo and Kostievo in Maritsa Municipality, the villages of Orizari, Kadievo and Zlatitrap in Rodopi Municipality, the villages of Yoakim Gruevo, Kurtovo Konare, Novo Selo and Trivoditsi in Stamboliyski Municipality, and the villages of Hadzhievo, Govedare and Malo Konare in Pazardzhik Region.

Actions will be taken to cull the sick and contact birds on the premises in order to control the outbreak.

Poultry meat and products coming from a farm where an outbreak of bird flu has been detected do not pose a risk to human health, BFSA said.
