A Turkish driver was detained at the Svilengrad district police station (south-central Bulgaria) for offering a bribe to a police officer, Interior Ministry’s Regional Directorate in Haskovo said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

A 65-year-old Turkish driver of a semi-trailer truck overtook a column of waiting trucks on Maritsa Motorway, was stopped by traffic police and offered them EUR 20 to be allowed to continue to the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. His arrest immediately followed and the investigating police officer on duty was informed. The Turkish driver was detained for up to 24 hours under pre-trial proceedings.

There was a series of similar cases in the queue in front of Kapitan Andreevo border crossing between February 15 and 17 February this year, when five truck drivers were detained while trying to bribe law enforcement officers.
