The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by 0.26% to 2.296 points over the week, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said on Sunday.
At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the outgoing week, the average wholesale price of imported cucumbers went down by 6.1% to BGN 2.95 per kilogramme. The price of imported tomatoes dropped by 3.6% to BGN 3.25/kg. Potatoes rose by 3.1% to BGN 1.35/kg.
The price of carrots went down by 5.4%, and they were selling at BGN 1.22/kg. The price of imported onions increased by 1.3% to BGN 1.59/kg. Cabbage prices rose by 1.7% to BGN 1.20/kg, while imported red peppers rose by 12.5% to BGN 4.50/kg.
The price of imported apples decreased by 2.2% to BGN 1.79/kg. Lemons rose by 3.4% to BGN 2.12/kg. Bananas rose by 0.7% to BGN 2.84/kg, tangerines by 2.7% to BGN 2.27/kg. Oranges’ prices fell by 2.9% to BGN 2/kg.
The price of white brined cheese made from cow's milk dropped by 1.3% to BGN 10.88/kg while yellow kashkaval cheese, type "Vitosha", rose by 0.5% to BGN 16.80/kg.
Yoghurt, with a fat content of 3% and over, maintained its price and was selling at BGN 1.16 for a cup of 400 g. The price of fresh milk, with 3% fat content, went up by 0.4% to BGN 2.26/litre.
The average wholesale price of chicken inreased by 2.5% to BGN 6.44/kg, the price of eggs (size M) stood the same as last week and they were selling at BGN 0.37 per piece.
The price of rice went up by 2.1% to BGN 3.35/kg, while lentils’ went down by 0.2% to BGN 4.25/kg. The price of dry common beans increased by 1.4% to BGN 4.27/kg.
Sugar went up by 0.5% to BGN 2.18/kg and sunflower oil by 3.7% to BGN 2.78/litre. Flour (type 500) inreased by 5.6% to BGN 1.31/kg, while the price of butter from cow's milk increased by 0.7% to BGN 2,65 for a pack of 125 grammes.
