A possible technology for long-term storage of nuclear waste is being discussed with several countries such as France, Finland and across the Atlantic, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at question time in the National Assembly on Friday. He was replying to a question raised by Yordan Todorov (Vazrazhdane) about Bulgaria's plans to build a storage facility for burying spent nuclear fuel. Todorov fears that Bulgaria will become a "nuclear dumpster".

Denkov said nothing will change in the coming weeks and months concerning the regime which has been in place for years, including when Bulgaria had better diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union and later Russia.

The decision about temporary storage of nuclear waste will be made after the decision about long-term storage, Denkov noted.

Todorov suggested that Ukraine could take Bulgaria's spent nuclear fuel, and Denkov could have arranged for that during his "frequent" visits to Ukraine. Denkov responded by describing the statement as a lie. He said he has visited Ukraine only once.
