Defence Minister: Strong, Independent Ukraine Is Vital for Euro-Atlantic Stability, Bulgaria's National Security

A strong and independent Ukraine is vital for the stability of the Euro-Atlantic community and for the national security of Bulgaria and the entire region, said Defence Minister Todor Tagarev on Friday before the premiere of the documentary Letters from the War. Letter 1 - The Pulse of Ukraine.

“If Russia stops fighting, there will be no war, and if Ukraine stops fighting, there will be no Ukraine,” Tagarev underlined. The aggressor Russia bears full responsibility for the war, he added. “Together with our allies, we remain firmly committed to helping Ukraine for as long as it takes to win. We condemn and will counter all those who support Russia's war and spread and reinforce misinformation about it,” the Defence Minister stated.

The Minister welcomed the idea of making a film series on the war.

“We Bulgarians have proved to be susceptible to the spread of fake news and misinformation and we need to get the truth first hand. Therefore, make every effort to make this series of films available to more Bulgarians,“ Tagarev urged.

The Ukrainian resistance took the world by surprise, said Counsellor Anna Tertychna, acting Head of Mission at the Ukrainian Embassy in Bulgaria. “It was born as a protest against total lawlessness and barbarism of the Russian occupiers,” she added.

The film The Pulse of Ukraine is the first in the series Letters from the War, a production of the Defence Ministry’s Information Centre. Its aim is to present an emotional human first-person account of the war in Ukraine in all its manifestations, as well as the place of Bulgarians in it.
