Gabriela Georgieva finished sixth in the women's 200-metre backstroke final at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships.
The 26-year-old Bulgarian finished with a time of 2:10.11 minutes.
Georgieva fulfilled her goal in championship on Friday, covering the Olympic standard in the discipline and improving the national record, becoming the first Bulgarian under 2:10 in the discipline and for the first time in her career qualifying for the final of a major championship. On Saturday, she started mentally freed from unnecessary expectations and had a good swim, she beat the previous national record (2:10.43 by Ekaterina Avramova) for the second time.
Georgieva also performed excellently in the shorter distance 100 metre backstroke in Doha. She reached the semi-finals and placed 13th.
American Claire Curzan became world champion in the 200-metre backstroke, with a time of 2:05.77 minutes and received a third gold medal in the championship after titles in the 50 and 100-metre backstroke.
Jaclyn Barkley from Australia was second with 2:07.03 and Anastasiya Shkurdai from Belarus was third with 2:09.08 minutes.
