The National Statistical Institute (NSI) is already working on the new consumer basket, which accounts for inflation and has been updated based on household consumption of goods and services over the past year. In the new consumer basket, the goods and services are one less than last year - 852, NSI President Atanas Atanasov told BTA on Friday.

Four goods were dropped and three new ones were added, Atanasov explained. New are, for example, a healthy cooking appliance and new types of cameras, while the small compact model of digital camera, which is hardly used anymore, is dropped from the consumer basket.

The price per minute of a call and SMS from a pre-paid programme are also dropped, the NSI President said. He added that varieties of train tickets to different destinations, monitored newspapers and magazines, banking services, bundled telecommunication services have been updated.

In 2024, over 40,000 price registrations per month are planned in country’s regional capitals. “Thus, every month we calculate national inflation and a harmonized index, which serves as a comparison with other EU countries and is a criterion for Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone,” Atanasov pointed out.
