The Council of Ministers adopted on Thursday a decision to approve and sign The Ljubljana-The Hague Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of the Crime of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes and Other International Crimes, and to authorize the Justice Minister to sign the Convention subject to subsequent ratification, the Government press office said on Thursday.

The Convention will be opened for signature on February 14-15 in The Hague, the Netherlands. In its position during the negotiations, the Bulgarian side adhered to its international commitments in the field of international cooperation in criminal matters, taking into account the common position of the European Union as well as the Bulgarian national interest in supporting the fight against impunity.

The scope of the Convention covers the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, as well as other most serious international crimes. With regard to definitions, reference is made to the definitions given in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, to which the Bulgaria is a party, the announcement said.
