Bulgarian, Jordanian Top Diplomats Discuss Situation in Middle East

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Al Safadi, discussed the situation in the Middle East and the necessary actions to prevent the escalation of the conflict, said Gabriel on her Facebook page. She is participating in the Foreign Affairs Council with the ministers of the EU member states, which takes place in Brussels.

Gabriel's upcoming visit in February at the invitation of Ayman Al Safadi was also discussed, as was the prioritization of strategic areas of cooperation of mutual interest.

"I expressed the readiness of the Bulgarian side to host a meeting of the Aqaba Process at the level of heads of state in 2024, hopefully accompanied by the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan," Gabriel wrote.

On Monfday, European Union foreign ministers are discussed the EU's future mission to ensure the safety of merchant shipping in the Red Sea, where Iran-linked Yemeni Houthi rebels have carried out a series of attacks in recent weeks.
