The General Labour Inspectorate has conducted 48,570 checks in 2023, the Inspectorate reported here on Friday. A total of 40,160 enterprises with 1,628,790 employees have been checked. The total number of labour legislation violations is 229,801.

Violations related to health and safety conditions at work totalled 116,688. There were 111,983 violations related to ordinances regulating employment relations. Of these, the largest number concern pay – 24,074. These are the violations that workers most often report because lack of resources prevents them from meeting their basic needs.

Thanks to the General Labour Inspectorate, overdue wages were paid to employees amounting to over BGN 7.8 million in 2023. Violations related to working time totalled 13,362, while those related to establishment of employment relationship numbered 14,269.

There were 3,495 cases of work without an employment contract.

In 2023, there were a total of 466 instances when labour inspectors had to stop the work at sites, machines, and facilities to prevent health-threatening and life-threatening situations, which is more compared to the 315 such instances reported in 2022.

A total of 9,979 written statements ascertaining administrative violations have been issued in 2023. The sum of the enforceable penalty decrees and approved settlements added up to BGN 14.5 million.

A total of 14,827 work permits have been issued to minors. Their number is growing, compared to 2022, when 11,933 work permits have been issued.
