An exhibition by artist Tsanko Tsankov titled "Looking Through the Worlds" will be on display at the Anel gallery in Sofia between January 23 and 29, the organizers of the event said.
The exhibition includes 56 paintings. The organizers describe Tsankov not only as an exceptionally talented brush master, but as an artist who is provocative, unconventional, rejecting every taboo when it comes to eroticism. Some time ago, an exhibition of his was censored for containing nude female bodies, they added.
In the words of art historian Plamena Dimitrova-Racheva, "Looking Through the Worlds" is consisted of paintings inspired by mythology, biblical legends, spiritual symbols, Christian culture signs, and the multifaceted beauty of women. Painted in different periods, his works express the aesthetics and beauty of his artistic style, she noted.
Tsankov was born in Sofia in 1962. In 1988, he graduated from the National Academy of Art with a degree in scenography. In his career, he staged over 40 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, and participated in over 30 international art salons, including the Salon of Arts in Buenos Aires (1988), Biennale of Graphic Art in Varna (1991, 1993), Triennale of Graphic Art in Tokyo (1995), Salon of Arts in London (2001, 2002), Salon of Painting in Birmingham (2001, 2002). Tsankov's works are owned by collectors from Bulgaria, Germany, Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, Greece, India, Syria, Argentina, Mexico, USA, and Japan.
Tsankov lives and works in Varna.
