The opening of the corridors for the free passage of citizens from Schengen countries at Sofia Airport is now ready to be implemented easily overnight, SOF Connect (Sofia Airport's operator) Jesus Caballero told BTA on Wednesday. "In fact, we have been ready for a long time, as we have passed several successful checks by the European Union, which also contributed to Bulgaria's accession to Schengen," he added.
The rules for allocating flights at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be different from the current ones. "In this regard, we are planning a communication campaign together with the airlines to minimize the number of passengers going to the wrong terminal," Caballero explained.
"Our data shows that more than two-thirds of passengers to and from Sofia Airport (69%) travel to and from Schengen Member States, and from 31 March they will now pass through the terminals faster without border controls," he pointed out.
