A festival for science lovers of all ages will be held in Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) from November 23 and 26, the organizers from Beautiful Science Foundation said on their website. Within the 1st Plovdiv Science Festival, scientists from Bulgaria and abroad will present the latest developments in the world of science and technology in the most accessible manner. 

The four-day festival will take place at the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology. The programme for November 23 and 24 features free events for organized groups of pupils that will present in a captivating way topics from the school curriculum in physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology, and other subjects. Among the speakers are university lecturers and scientists from Bulgaria and abroad.

Among the foreign speakers are: Prof Steve Brusatte, a paleontologist and professor at the University of Edinburgh; Dr Michael Sandy, a geologist and member of a project at the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology; Prof Nana Voitenko, a neuroscientist and Rector of the Dobrobut Academy Medical School in Ukraine; Prof Pavel Belan, a biophysicist and head of the Department of Biomedicine and Neuroscience at the Kyiv Academic University; Prof Jean-Marie Tarascon, a solid-state chemistry specialist and head of the College de France’s Solid-State Chemistry and Energy group; and Dr Eric Gloaguen, a theoretical astrophysicist working at the French National Centre for Scientific Research.

A presentation by the Green Balkans environmental organization will acquaint visitors with the use of satellite transmitters, antennas and other telecommunication equipment in studying rare and protected bird species. An exhibition of life-size models of birds inhabiting the Bulgarian part of the European Green Belt will be on display, the NGO said on its website.

The team of Plovdiv Regional Natural History Museum will give a presentation on their expedition to Norway last month, the Museum said. The trip included visits to key Norwegian institutions in the fields of science and culture with the goal to establish lasting partnerships with museums of natural history, aquaria, and zoos. The presentation will take place at the Museum’s Planetarium.

The festival’s more than 100 events also include screenings of documentaries, demonstrations, workshops, and presentations of scientific books.

The 1st Plovdiv Science Festival is held in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science and with the support of Plovdiv Municipality, academic, educational, international, and media partners.
