The political polarization and the blocking of Parliament are the main deficiencies identified in a European Commission report on North Macedonia’s progress, which has to be presented in Brussels on Wednesday, said North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani after his meeting with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Javier Colomina.

"The political polarization which makes impossible the adoption of a large number of legislative and reformist decisions is a main weakness identified by the European Commission. The rest are the symptoms and this is a serious message, which does not apply to the government only, but to all political parties. It is a paradox to cite the fight against corruption and to block the opening of negotiating chapters 23 and 24, whose aim is to overcome the weaknesses identified in the reports,” said Osmani.

Javier Colomina is paying a visit to North Macedonia. His talk with Osmani was dominated by the challenges to security with regards to the situation in the Western Balkans, the continuing support for Ukraine and the complex situation in the Middle East.
