Bulgaria is a reliable member of the EU, has met the technical criteria for Schengen membership and deserves to be part of that area, acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov told a conference at the European Parliament here on Tuesday. Sarafov underscored Bulgaria's key role in the effective management of EU's external borders, overcoming the migration-related problems and the Union's security, the prosecution service said in a press release.

"In today's world of instability and deep transformations, these challenges become particularly topical and surely deserve every effort for their solution," Sarafov said.

He expressed certainty that the discussion at the European Parliament, attended by representatives of the European Commission, Frontex, the Interior Ministry, and MEPs, would give the opportunity to formulate specific proposals for harmonized application of the border control rules and standards and would reveal new prospects before the European security system.

The conference at the European Parliament on Schengen enlargement and Bulgaria's role in EU borders' security was organized by Bulgarian MEP Emil Radev (EPP/GERB).
