site.btaDefence Minister Opens Conference on Technologies against Disinformation
Defence Minister Todor Tagarev opened Tuesday the second edition of the conference "Technologies against Disinformation 2.0". In his opening remarks, he stressed that disinformation is only one of the tools of hybrid warfare. In his words, the conflict between Hamas and Israel is an example of how the subjugation of public opinion becomes the main tool, and military force plays a subordinate role.
He commented that in the last year there has been a problem with the manning of the army and as the main reason for this he pointed to the disinformation campaign launched by some domestic politicians who claimed that the army would be sent to fight in Ukraine.
“This year we had 35% fewer applicants compared to 2022 for the Military University in Veliko Tarnovo and 45% fewer cadets enrolled. Actually, the places that were filled were 22% of those needed for the army. This is directly related to the misinformation campaign towards the defence services,” Tagarev stressed.
