site.btaSJC Prosecutors Chamber Holds Hearing of 17 Candidates for European Delegated Prosecutors

The Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Thursday began a two-day hearing of candidates for European Delegated Prosecutors (EDPs). Seventeen persons are competing to be among the seven nominated by Bulgaria to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). 

Among the candidates is Sofia District Prosecutor Nevena Zartova and several of her deputies, several regular prosecutors, one administrative judge, and one investigator from Sofia.

For nearly two years, Bulgaria has been failing to fill the country’s quota at the EPPO of 15 EDPs. In the first procedure for nominating EDPs, the SJC nominated only four candidates. In the second procedure, five were nominated. In the third procedure in 2022, there were no candidates. In the fourth procedure, the SJC nominated three candidates and another three quit.
