Meeting here on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved a draft agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and UNESCO on renewing the classification of the Sofia-based Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe as a Category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO. According to the Government Information Service, the new agreement will help strengthen Bulgaria's position of a leading country in the field of intangible cultural heritage in the region as well as among the signatories of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The agreement will also help promote the ongoing processes for building a network of experts as well various joint initiatives in Southeast European countries.
