A few days ago, the document banning cars with Russian registration from crossing the EU borders arrived, it is yet to be examined and a decision will be taken on how things will be done on this issue, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov told the media on Thursday. He added that Russian cars are still not stopped at the Bulgarian border.

On September 11 the European Commission confirmed that the sanctions introduced so far against Russia over the war in Ukraine include the ban on vehicles with Russian registration crossing EU borders.

Regarding the news that Austria has rejected the call of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to lift the veto on Bulgaria and Romania joining the Schengen area, Minister Stoyanov said that Bulgaria continues to insist that it should enter Schengen. "Bulgaria and Romania, together, in a package, this is our position," he stressed.
