At the border with Serbia, traffic is intense at the Kalotina border crossing checkpoint at the exit for cars and trucks, according to data as of 6 am on Sunday, the General Directorate of Border Police of the Ministry of Interior said on its website.
Eight lanes are open for cars entering, and five for those leaving the country.
The Kalotina checkpoint is under reconstruction and modernisation. The works require temporary narrowing of the lanes and reorganisation of the traffic flow. During the holidays, travellers with cars should bear in mind that crossing the border at Kalotina may take longer than planned.
To avoid the heavy traffic, Border Police advise travellers to use the other checkpoints on the Bulgarian-Serbian border.
On the border with Romania, traffic is heavy at Vidin, Kardam, Oryahovo, and Nikopol for exiting trucks.
At the border with Turkiye, truck traffic is heavy at Kapitan Andreevo.
At the border with Greece, traffic is normal at all border crossing points.
Border Police recommend that those travelling to and from Greece, in addition to the Kulata and Makaza checkpoints, should use the other crossing points on the Bulgarian-Greek border - Ilinden, Zlatograd, Ivaylovgrad and Kapitan Petko Voyvoda.
At the border crossing point "Kulata" yesterday the traffic was extremely intense and columns of waiting cars were formed.
The checkpoints Makaza, Zlatograd and Ivaylovgrad are only open for cars and vans.
Traffic is normal at all border checkpoints to North Macedonia.
