The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews with a concert on September 3 at Bulgaria Hall. The event is under the patronage of President Rumen Radev.

In addition to the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ashira Choir from Israel with conductor Issak Tavior, the Anima a cappella choir with conductor Stanimira Manolova, and the German Zamir Choir from Bayreuth with conductor Barbara Baier will take part. Soloists are Barbara Baier and James Clark. The programme will include works by Brahms, Bellini and Issak Tavior.

“It is our duty to give thanks for what your parents, and your grandparents, did for our sisters and brothers - for the Jewish community in Bulgaria, in Sofia, and everywhere,” Tavor told BTA.

"I know the story of the rescue of the Jews - of not being put on the train to the concentration camps. And this is very special. And now, 80 years later, we want to give thanks for that," Baier added.
