The fight against drug production and drug distribution is already yielding tangible results, the press centre of the Council of Ministers said on Thursday evening. The coordination mechanism between the Ministry of Interior and the prosecutor's office is proving its effectiveness. In the last month alone, 21 laboratories for the production and cultivation of narcotics have been uncovered, including a laboratory for synthetic drugs, the scale and technology of which has never been uncovered in Bulgaria before. The new legislative changes are also having an effect. More than 430 criminal proceedings have already been initiated and 214 cars have been seized from drugged drivers.

The figures were reported to Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov during a meeting at the Council of Ministers on Thursday, which was attended by Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and e-Government Minister Alexander Yolovski, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, representatives of the Ministries of Education and Science and Health, SANS, the Customs Agency, and the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria.
