The Council of Ministers approved an amendment to the ordinance on the Unified Information System for Counteracting Crime, which regulates the provision of information not only on foreigners residing in the country for up to a year, but also on those who are in the country on a long-term or permanent basis.
The addition will ensure that all the information necessary for a rapid and quality investigation is available in order to reduce and curb crime, which is essential to achieve the strategic objectives of improving the fight against it.
Long-term resident status is granted to a foreigner who has resided legally and without interruption on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria within 5 years prior to application. After its acquisition, the long-term residence status shall become permanent as long as no grounds for its withdrawal have arisen.
