Varna Municipality wants to rely on the widest possible video surveillance system in the city, Mayor Ivan Portnih said in an interview with BTA on the occasion of the Day of Varna - August 15. According to him, the frequent vandalism requires such surveillance of bus stops, underpasses, crosswalks, all garbage collection points. The mayor added that he welcomed the strengthening of sanctions against drunk or drugged drivers, but similarly stricter liability should be sought for destruction of public property. He also commented that there is a labour shortage in all areas, as well as with companies involved in street repairs or refuse collection. According to the mayor, the Green Zone (paid parking) in the city may become a reality in October, and among the important upcoming projects are the construction of new large swimming pools in two of the districts of Varna, as well as the connection of the airport with the resort complexes along Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.
