Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov met with the representative of UNICEF in Bulgaria, Christina de Bruin, and the two signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Interior Ministry and UNICEF, together with a work plan for the 2023-2024 period, reported the Ministry and UNICEF.

The main goal of the joint work is to guarantee the rights of all children in Bulgaria and to provide support to children at risk; children who have suffered from and witnessed violence and crime; children with legal issues, as well as migrant children and children seeking or receiving international protection, UNICEF noted.

Minister Stoyanov expressed high appreciation for the support of UNICEF in the activities of the Interior Ministry in the priority area of child protection. He highlighted the organization's role in the entire process of amending the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act, the reception of refugee and migrant children, including in the context of the wave of refugees from Ukraine, and a number of other areas of joint work.

UNICEF and the Ministry of the Interior confirmed their commitment in the line of prevention and protection of children from online sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as in the field of police training.
