Minister Vouchkov: Nearly 3,800 Employees Have Left Interior Ministry in 2014

Sofia, December 8 (BTA) - Nearly 3,800 employees have left the
Interior Ministry since the start of 2014 and those newly
appointed are under 1,050, Interior Minister Vesselin Vouchkov
said at a national meeting of his ministry's leadership Monday.
A total of 47,768 persons receive salaries from the Interior
Ministry, and the personnel cuts have been around 19 per cent in
the last years, according to the data presented at the meeting.

The people want more uniformed police officers in their
settlements, Vouchkov said, adding that it is unfair for the
Interior Ministry to deal with migration-related activity. The
Interior Ministry will try to manage with the expected 2015
budget of 935 million leva through internal transformations, he
noted.

Vouchkov listed the Interior Ministry's key priorities during
his term in office, including the introduction of surveillance
cameras in various settlements in Bulgaria as a way to
counteract conventional crime. This measure costs 1 lev per
person on average, he explained and added that crime has dropped
by one-third in the settlements where surveillance cameras are
already being used.

The directors of the Interior Ministry's regional departments
have until January 10, 2015 to improve their work on pretrial
proceedings. Also by January 10 new structures of the Interior
should be created in the country, as well as opportunities for
increasing the number of permanent job positions, Vouchkov
explained. He said firmly that there will not be political
pressure on the system.

Vouchkov voiced disagreement with the existence of "powerful and
hierarchical directorates such as Security Police and Criminal
Police", because their administration is bigger than the
necessary.
