President Plevneliev to Propose Initiative for Change in Ammunition Storage, Utilization Legislation

Sliven, Southeastern Bulgaria, January 22 (BTA) - President
Rosen Plevneliev will propose a legislative initiative and a
debate on an amendment to the ammunition storage and utilization
legislation, he told citizens during his visit to Sliven
Thursday.

A steering committee from the village of Lozenets informed
Plevneliev that the Bereta Trading ammunition utilization
company, the storage facilities of which exploded in 2012, has
still not paid the compensations due. The people are concerned
that the company will try to relaunch its activity and reopen
its facilities under a different name. They insist on
legislative changes in the activity of such companies, such as
the introduction of a requirement for a distance of at least six
kilometres between storage facilities and nucleated
settlements. The village of Lozenets is located around two
kilometres away from the Bereta Trading company's facilities and
their explosion caused significant damage, the representatives
of the steering committee said at the meeting with Plevneliev.

"During the month of political consultations, I will propose a
legislative initiative to the eight parliamentary groups," the
head of State said. He added that he will initiate a check into
the payment of compensations to those affected by the explosion.
In his words, the results of his actions will become clear by
the end of March.

At the meeting with the President, citizens presented problems
related to infrastructure, construction, healthcare, social and
housing matters, and others. The head of State told journalists
that the people raised questions mostly about the administration
of justice system.

Plevneliev was in Sliven to open a specialized unit (blue room)
for hearing children who have become victims of or witnessed
violence and children in conflict with the law. He was welcomed
to the city with a guard of honour by the members of 22 220
military formation in Sliven. During the ceremony, active
members of the Ataka party booed President Plevneliev and
demanded his resignation.
