Public Revenue Surplus to Go Towards Increasing Defence Spending

Sofia, September 2 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on
Wednesday that the government is planning to use the public
revenue surplus in the next couple of years to increase defence
spending to 2 per cent of GDP, a mark which Bulgaria is
committed to reach as a NATO member.

Speaking at quick-questions time in the National Assembly,
Borissov praised the combat readiness of the Bulgarian military
which they demonstrated during his visits to military schools
and during this summer's exercises.

He expressed hope that Bulgaria will finalize its agreement with
Poland to allow for 26 or 27 Bulgarian fighter aircraft to be
upgraded in five or six years. It is hoped that more money will
be available in the meantime to buy cutting-edge fighters, he
said.
